Do you meditate!
I love to meditate! I didn’t always love the practice of meditating because I didn’t understand it. When I began my practice two years ago, I thought I had to meditate in a certain area in my home, cut off my thoughts while in practice, and to meditate for no less than an hour.
I was so wrong!
The benefits of meditation is it reduces stress, controls anxiety, and gives self-awareness of the mind and body.
In starting a meditation practice, one can practice anywhere not in just one particular space. One can practice in the living room, kitchen, or bedroom. You can either practice while sitting in a chair or practice laying down on a bed or couch. (Disclaimer: if laying down, you could easily fall asleep during or after your session because it is so relaxing).
If just starting a meditation practice, it is recommended to meditate for 5-10 minutes a day. You can meditate by placing your feet on the floor, closing your eyes, and placing your hands in your lap. During a meditation practice, your thoughts will still dominate your mind, but, it is best not to concentrate on your thoughts. Guided meditation can help with wandering thoughts. Focus your attention on your breath and how your body responds with each inhalation and exhalation.
You can practice meditating on your own or you can practice using one of the following five meditation apps. They are: 1. Calm 2. Headspace 3. Insight Timer 4. Stop, Breathe & Think 5. Breathe, Sleep, & Meditation
There are many more meditation apps but, these are just a few to help you develop a mindful daily self-care meditation practice.
So, do you follow a meditation practice?
Mindfully,
Sheila
